On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near Pereira in western Colombia, devastating the cities of Cali, Pereira, Manizales, and Quibdó. Buildings collapsed, landslides swept through the coffee-growing region, and over 25,800 families were left without safe shelter, clean water, or reliable food.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near Pereira on August 10, 2026, causing widespread destruction across western Colombia. At least 265–273 people have been confirmed dead, with over 4,100 reported missing and more than 3,800 injured. The hardest-hit cities — Cali, Pereira, Manizales, and Quibdó — suffered severe structural collapses and landslides throughout the coffee-growing region.
Nearly 5,000 homes were damaged and 387 destroyed, while 61 buildings collapsed entirely. Critical infrastructure was severely impacted: 550+ educational institutions were affected, 24 health facilities sustained damage — including Hospital Universitario del Valle and Clínica Nuestra in Valle del Cauca — and more than 350 community centres were disrupted.
Overall, 25,800+ families have been impacted by the disaster. Emergency response teams are on the ground, but the scale of need far exceeds current capacity. Local churches have opened their doors to shelter displaced families and coordinate relief distribution.
